FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about GoHoardly and pay-cycle budgeting.

Pricing

Is GoHoardly free?

Yes, for now. The app is currently in active development and all features are accessible at no cost.

Will it always be free?

Our intention is to keep the core functionality free. In the future, some advanced features may become paid. We have not made any final decisions yet - but if that changes, you will know in advance.

Privacy & data

Do you connect to my bank?

No, and that is intentional. There is no bank sync. You log every transaction manually, which takes about 5 seconds and keeps you aware of where your money goes.

Where is my data stored?

Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure located in the EU. It is private to your account and not shared with third parties.

Who can see my data?

Only you. Every row in the database is protected by row-level security - no other user can read or modify your data.

The 4 buckets

What is the Flow bucket?

Flow is your everyday spending budget - groceries, coffee, transit. Your available balance grows each day proportionally to how far you are into the period. Overspend early and your balance goes negative. You see it in real time.

What is the Fixed bucket?

Fixed is for recurring, predictable costs: rent, subscriptions, insurance. You set a limit at the start of the period and log against it as bills arrive. Keeping these separate means your Flow balance stays readable and is not thrown off every time a big bill lands.

What is the Extra bucket?

Extra is for discretionary spending - things you want but do not strictly need. A new piece of clothing, a gadget, a weekend trip. What makes it special: whatever you do not spend carries over to the next period automatically, building up over time.

What is the Savings bucket?

Savings is money you set aside on purpose every cycle. The amount is logged automatically when you close a period - no manual entry needed. You can allocate your savings balance to specific goals and track progress on each one.

Periods

What is a period?

A period is one budget cycle. It starts on the day you get paid and ends when you decide to close it. There is no forced calendar boundary - January 1st means nothing here.

When do I close a period?

When your next paycheck arrives. You close it manually by tapping "Close period" on the home screen. The app records your spending, calculates the carryover, logs your savings, and opens a fresh period starting today.

What happens to unspent budget when I close a period?

The combined remainder from Flow, Fixed, and Extra is carried forward into the next period's Extra bucket. If you spent less than your budget, you start the next period with more room. If you overspent, the carryover is smaller.

Can I have multiple open periods?

No. There is always exactly one active period. Closing the current one immediately opens the next.

Savings & goals

How does savings work?

When you set up your budget, you decide how much goes into savings each period. That amount is logged automatically on period close. You can also add extra savings manually - for example, a bonus or money from selling something.

What are goals?

Goals are named targets you allocate your savings toward - a vacation, an emergency fund, a new laptop. Each goal tracks its own progress separately. Reaching a goal marks it as completed.

What is unallocated savings?

Unallocated savings is the portion of your total savings balance that has not been assigned to any goal yet. You can leave it unallocated or distribute it across goals at any time.

Shopping list

Does the shopping list log expenses automatically?

Yes. When you close a shopping list, all checked items with a price are logged as expenses in your current period automatically. No need to re-enter them.

Does the app handle VAT or sales tax?

Yes. If prices in your country are displayed without tax, you can set a default tax rate that applies to all items. You can also override the rate on individual items when a specific product has a different rate. The app calculates the final price including tax so you know the real cost before checkout.

Be honest:
Do you know where your money went last month?

Find out. Your next paycheck deserves a plan.
